HOW
MUCH DO I HAVE TO SPEND?
With
advancements in microcomputer design and great increases in the
quantities of computers being sold, personal computer prices
consistently continue to drop. A 32-bit computer today costs much less
than an 8-bit computer in 1981! Prices are dropping on almost a daily
basis. Consult your newspaper which has dozens of descriptions for
various personal computer manufacturers, architectures and prices.
SO
WHAT SHOULD I BUY?
This
is a very important question. To answer it, you must know what you want
to do with your computer. If you require a computer for relatively
simple applications like letter writing and basic accounting, the old
8-bit technology could serve you well. If you want to get into desktop
publishing to produce flyers, business cards, brochures and incredibly
professional looking letters, you'll want a 32-bit microcomputer. For
professional applications like high-end desktop publishing, multimedia
presentations, auto-CAD, 3-dimensional computer animation and non-linear
video editing, a 32-bit microcomputer with loads of RAM is essential.
IS
THERE ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD CONSIDER?
YES!
Try to anticipate your potential needs as they may grow in the future.
Maybe all you want to do is simple word-processing today, but can you
anticipate a possible need to get into desktop publishing down the road?
With the prices of computers dropping steadily they are really becoming
very affordable. Don't sell yourself short. Spending an additional
$500.00 today could assure you of acquiring a computer you won't grow
out of in six months. |
